Born in Cartagena, Colombia. Carrasquilla’s work has been deeply influenced by his own surroundings. Cartagena, one of the continent’s oldest cities and one of the most important ports during colonial times, has left an indelible mark in his paintings.

Through the presence of ghostly, yet dignified, elements of the past, Carrasquilla pays homage to the grandeur of an age gone. The Naval Academy, headquartered in this city and an integral part to local life has also been and additional factor in the artist’s inspiration.
