Vase with Flowers
January 15, 1958; 10 color lithograph
unique working proof ("epreuve d' etat")
Bloch #84; Mourlot #305
*Note; Mourlot, the printer for Picasso lithographs, notes the following about this lithograph: "He wanted the trial proofs begun again 3 times, and for a very long period he did not give the pass for press". This image was originally drawn on December 7, 1957 (see date printed in yellow in upper left hand corner). This proof is dated January 15, 1958. Note that the dots in the corners and the roman numerals did not appear in the editioned examples. This provides a window into how Picasso developed a lithographic image, how much time and energy he devoted to his graphics and how exacting and dedicated a printmaker Picasso was.
